At our second networking event, we will have Mr. Tuncer Toprakci from TRT Structural Engineering as our guest speaker.
Speaker Biography
Mr. Toprakci started his own engineering firm, TRT Structural Engineering in 2007, after having worked at prominent Los Angeles based structural engineering firms, Brandow & Johnston Inc. for 23 years as senior engineer and at Wheeler & Gray Inc. for 8 years as vice president. He has also practiced in Europe between 1976 and 1979. He has earned his BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). He is currently a licensed structural engineering in the state of California. His work included development of preliminary and final structural systems, supervising and engineering of structural and seismic design, preparation of construction drawings, specifications and construction administration. His work also included the evaluation and seismic upgrading of existing buildings, design and structural assessment of entertainment and/or amusement facilities, and sports facilities.
He has worked on special and/or unique structures such as the Space Shuttle test frame, entertainment center ride support structures, fabric roof systems, Rose Bowl Stadium Press Box, Score & Video support structures, new elevator under existing seating deck for disabled access to field level seating, seating deck repair and protective overlay application, widening of the pitch for World Cup 1994 Soccer Tournament. Over the years he has authored numerous design & analysis computer programs for in-house use at previous firms and still continues to develop new software. Mr. Toprakci also taught engineering classes at the University of Southern California between 1974-1976 and 1980-1985.
During our networking event Mr Toprakci will share his past experience as an engineer making the transition from a corporate environment to a small-business environment while discussing a variety of topics including:
– Challenges of starting a small business
– Networking, business development and advertising the business
– The evolution of engineering and construction industry in the last 30 yrs
– Key business and engineering principles, best practices to follow for success
– Personal advices to young engineers and architects
This presentation is intended to be an open forum type discussion where all attendees can freely join in and share their thoughts, experiences and observations about the above listed topics as well as other issues related to the construction industry.
