Yuceler Joins Ranks of Notable Role Models in International Trade, Continues to Help Europe’s Best Airline Thrive in Los Angeles and throughout the World
LOS ANGELES – Fatma Yuceler, General Manager, Western Region USA for Turkish Airlines, voted Europe’s Best Airline for the fourth year in a row by Skytrax Passenger Choice Awards and flying to more countries than any other airline, was recently honored as the International Trade Catalyst of the Year by Women in International Trade – Los Angeles (WIT-LA) at the WIT-LA 2nd Annual Global Trade Awards Gala 2014 held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles Harbor on Thursday, October 9, 2014. Recipients of this high honor are individuals who have made significant contributions to fostering international trade.
With this award, Yuceler has joined the ranks of professionals whom WIT-LA, a California non-profit organization, part of the global Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT), views as notable role models and decision-makers in the Southern California and international trade communities. WIT-LA aims to bring these unique individuals together, celebrate accomplishments in international trade and expand the sphere and value of international trade at the local, national and global level.
“I feel truly honored to have received this wonderful award, which is a testament to the fact that my work with Turkish Airlines has made a positive difference in people’s lives,” said Yuceler, who is currently engaging WIT-LA to put together a trade mission with Turkish Airlines to expand business and trade opportunities between Turkey and the United States. “With Turkish Airlines, I have been able to contribute to global trade discussions and assist in the development of rules and policies that have further bridged the economies of the world. WIT-LA’s efforts to empower women throughout the world and help them realize their full potential is commendable and I look forward to continuing my association with this great organization.”
Working for one of the world’s fastest growing airlines for more than 20 years, Yuceler has come to establish herself as a mover and shaker in travel and trade. An alumnus of the University of Istanbul with a keen sense of economics and marketing, she has been able to bring together businessmen and women from both Turkey and the United States and facilitate new business relationships between the two countries. A passionate advocate of women’s rights, Yuceler also has made time to serve women in the local community at the West Coast Women’s Leadership Forum, the Soroptimists, Hope Gardens Family Center, and Face Forward, an organization that helps battered women escape from violence and offers them reconstructive surgery. Yuceler was also recently named as an honoree of the Los Angeles Business Journal’s 22nd annual Women Making a Difference Awards, which honors the outstanding achievements of female executives throughout Los Angeles County.
Yuceler arrived in Los Angeles in June 2010 to set up office and airport operations for Turkish Airlines and has since played a key role in the airline’s rapid growth and expansion. Under Yuceler’s guidance, and in just three years, Los Angeles has become a major hub for Turkish Airlines. From January 2012 through November 2013, Turkish Airlines’ L.A. market increased in passengers by 11 percent and in capacity by 8 percent.
With an astute awareness of local culture and innovative business savvy, Yuceler has facilitated strategic deals with NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and other celebrities to promote the Turkish Airlines’ brand and expand trade between Los Angeles and Turkey. In July 2014, Yuceler and the rest of the Turkish Airlines team attended the renowned Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) Convention, held this year in Los Angeles, to highlight the airlines’ amazing growth over the past year. The airline’s custom selfie zone booth, inspired by the award-winning “Kobe vs. Messi: The Selfie Shootout” advertising campaign, with a special on-site appearance by Kobe Bryant himself, proved to be a huge success.
