Iraq’s KRG parliament elects new speaker

ERBIL, Iraq (AA) – Lawmakers in Iraq’s Kurdish region on Thursday elected Rewaz Fayaq as new parliament speaker.

The vote took place after Fala Farid, previous speaker of the regional parliament, assumed new post as a minister in the new Cabinet of the Iraq’s Kurdish region (KRG) .

During the same session four new lawmakers were sworn in, replacing the members appointed as ministers in the new Cabinet.

On Wednesday, Masrour Barzani was sworn in Wednesday as the new prime minister of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) in northern Iraq.

In a session held by the regional Kurdish parliament, 88 out of 111 lawmakers voted to give confidence to Barzani's government.
