ANKARA (AA) – The Oklahoma City Thunder (OKC) agreed to trade their superstar point guard Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets, NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski said late Thursday.
"Houston has reunited Russell Westbrook and James Harden," Wojnarowski of the ESPN said in a Twitter post to announce Westbrook's new franchise.
He also said that a trade deal, which will send Westbrook, 30, to the Rockets, was done as Westbrook will join his former teammate — the 2018 Most Valuable Player — James Harden in Houston.
"The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to trade Russell Westbrook to the Houston Rockets for Chris Paul, first-round picks in 2024 and 2026, pick swaps in 2021 and 2025," Wojnarowski said.
Westbrook was named the 2017 NBA MVP over his individual performance, averaging 31.6 points, 10.4 assists and 10.7 rebounds for Oklahoma during the 2016-2017 regular season.
As part of this deal, Houston Rockets' point guard Chris Paul, 34, goes to the OKC.
Westbrook played alongside Harden for the Thunder for three seasons. Kevin Durant, Westbrook and Harden took Oklahoma to the 2012 NBA Finals, where they lost against Miami Heat.
The Heat defeated the OKC 4-1 in the final series to be crowned as the 2012 NBA champions.
Last season Westbrook averaged 22.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists for Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging 'triple-double' stats for points, rebounds and assists for the second year in a row.
