Recognize Azerbaijani National Day – May 28

RECOGNIZE AZERBAIJANI NATIONAL DAY – MAY 28
The 94th anniversary of the world’s first predominantly Muslim secular democracy

On May 28, 2012, Azerbaijanis in America and around the world celebrate the 94th anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), the first secular democracy in the Muslim world. During the short two-year period of its existence, prior to the Bolshevik invasion of Azerbaijan in April 1920, ADR established functioning secular democratic institutions, granted universal suffrage rights to women and secured Azerbaijan’s international recognition. Recalling his meeting with the Azerbaijani delegation in 1919, President Woodrow Wilson remarked that the Azerbaijanis shared his ideals of liberty and justice.

Join Azerbaijani-Americans in the Pax Turcica action calling for a proper recognition of Azerbaijani National Day – May 28 – by our elected federal and state governments and legislatures. Sample text of such recognition is available at https://National.Azeris.org
