ANKARA (AA) – Spanish football clubs began a campaign Wednesday that urged donors to help Madrid residents struggling with hunger.
"Madrid x Madrid is a citizen movement that tries to give a global response to the increase in requests for help from residents of Madrid to alleviate their food needs," the fundraiser said on its website.
"Real Madrid and Atletico together in Madrid x Madrid," Real Madrid said as the Spanish capital clubs combined forces.
The fundraiser has so far received at least €23,610 ($26,500) with more than 210 donations. The average donation was €111.90 ($125.70).
The goal is €1 million or $1.12 million.
The campaign will end June 24.
