Subject: ART SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A POLITICAL TOOL CULTIVATING DISCRIMINATION

ART SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A POLITICAL TOOL  CULTIVATING DISCRIMINATION
Rebuttal by Ergun KIRLIKOVALI,

Feb 25, 2015

I am shocked and saddened by the fact that URI let itself be used in a political controversy and URI Department of Music allows art to be used as a propaganda tool.

Kevork Mourad and other Armenians who think like him—not all do [1]—should stop fighting WWI; it is over. It has been over for a 100 years. It is time for forgive and forget, not meaningless defamation, perpetual polarization, and destructive discrimination [2]. I say give peace a chance, as any painting, any music, any institute used as a medium to cultivate hate, cannot possibly serve peace.

Armenians love to start the clock on April 24, 1915, but they forget to tell you they had killed 120,000 Muslim, mostly Turks, by the end of 1914 [3] alone and another 80,000 during the VAN rebellion of April-May 1915 [4]. These horrific numbers come to 1.33 % of the total Ottoman population of 15 million in 1915. Imagine this: the same 1.33% would be 4.4 million Americans if applied to today’s America of 330 million. The question begs asking is this: What would America do if Armenians (or others) killed 4.4 million today? Would America stop at TERESET (Temporary Resettlement) like the Ottoman Empire did in 1915 [5]? Or would another Nagasaki or Hiroshima be on the table [5]? Armenians today are continuing with their Turk-bashing campaigns, using every medium imaginable, but the facts tell us a different story; a story of propaganda, agitation, terrorism, revolts, treason, territorial demands, raids, assassinations, bombings, murders, and more [6-15].

But all that is old history. Turks have long since chose to forgive and forget and forge ahead with hope. Turks built a nation out of the remnants of a collapsed empire and an economy 16th largest in the world today. What did Armenians do? Cultivated hatred and vengeance. Attacked, invaded, and ethnically cleansed a neighboring country. [16] Armenians never seemed to have the insight, vision, and/or courage to question their own leaders, Armenian revolutionary Federation (Dashnaks) for leading Armenians down the path of undermining a millennium of relatively peaceful cohabitation with Turks in Anatolia.[17] They should hold accountable the Dasnaks, Huncaks, Armenakans, Ramgavars, Nemesis, ASALA, JCAG and other Armenian terror groups for sawing discord and polarization in the Ottoman communities and then taking it to the next step: backstabbing, terrorism, revolts, and treason. [18-20]

Time has come to see the other side of the medallion. [21-23] Maybe 2015 will provide a forum for civilized dialogues and reasoned debates by honest truth-seekers, not partisans who are bent on promoting a single view at the expense of the truth. Reasonable people will finally remember to inquire about the other side of the story, ignored out of bias, as a university is expected to explore all angles of a controversy. [24-30]

Painting, music, and other forms of art should help peace, not war. May truth, love and peace eventually prevail over crude propaganda cultivating hate and vengeance. [31]

Peace,
